The Hospital Teen Fund raises money to support teenagers with a life threatening illness, qnd who receive in-patient treatments and rehabilitation at
Doernbecher Children's Hospital
in Portland, Oregon.
The Hospital Teen Fund was started in memory of 15-year-old Jimmy Pantenburg of Bend, Oregon, who died from cancer in 2009. As a result of the experience, Jimmy's family and friends created the Hospital Teen Fund to directly support other teenagers who stay in the hospital to receive treatments for their life threatening illnesses.
The effort was inspired by Jimmy's legacy of having a great time where ever he was, and the hospital was no exception. So, our goal is to provide teenage patients, their friends and families an opportunity to laugh together, play together and find a healing distraction from this dreadful reality.
Working closely with the Child Life Specialists of Doernbecher Children's Hospital, we purchase entertainment items, arts and crafts projects, beauty supplies and accessories for teens, offering something fun for them to do during those long days and nights in the small rooms.
We reached our goal to raise $5000 in 2010 and provided hundreds of items for teenagers at Doernbecher, keeping them occupied during their treatments, and adding a dose of happiness to their day.
